Pakistan is a unique country in many senses. Most quality commodities here are hard to come by and are often very expensive, unless you are comfortable with “China-made” low quality goods. One thing, however, that is not only readily available in Pakistan, but is also without any cost is the “certificates of treason”. Declaring anyone to be a RAW, CIA, Mossad agent or being labelled as traitor is the easiest thing Pakistan. No proof is ever needed. All one has to do to earn a certificate of treason is to standup for oppressed masses and work for the betterment of Pakistan.
Calling Mohajirs “traitor” is not new either. We as Mohajirs have constantly been hearing this for the last 70 years. What is ironical is that it is Mohajirs whose ancestors had created Pakistan, lost two million lives during the Partition of India and yet they are labelled as traitors by those who were the biggest defenders, though paid, of the British Raj in India.
The plight of Mohajirs in Pakistan is now well established both nationally and internationally and is not the purpose of this writing. Just to give a brief idea, the murder of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, assassination of Khan Liaqat Ali Khan, and calling Ms. Fatima Jinnah an “Indian agent”, are just a few major examples that do not need any more discussion.
Mohajirs had faced discrimination in Pakistan from the inception of the country in 1947. The intensity of such bias and discrimination, however, hit a new level when soon after the Bushra Zaidi incident, Urdu-speaking population living in urban Sindh decided to adopt the term “Mohajir” as their ethnic identity and raise voice against decades-long persecution. Both civil and military establishment joined hands against them and started one operation after another in urban Sindh.
Back to back operations conducted by Pakistan’s army, paramilitary Rangers, police and their proxies have so far left over 25 thousand Mohajirs dead. This number does not include those who were left maimed for life due to torture or went missing after the “enforced disappearances.”
Since 1987, Mohajirs as a nation have continuously elected their own representatives in the national and provincial assemblies but Mohajirs representatives have never been given administrative and legislative powers to change the lives of their voters.
Military and civil establishment have also been religiously following the infamous “divide & rule” against Mohajirs. In Since 1992, the Military Establishment and its intelligence agencies have created several political parties and factions to destroy the unity among Mohajirs but have continued to fail. Out of sheer frustration, they have now come out with a clear agenda, which is to crush Mohajirs physically, economically, and politically.
All this has led to a very heightened level of deprivation and frustration among the Mohajir youths and has appeared in many shapes. The Mohajir Liberation Movement, Mohajir Liberation Army, Mohajir Tigers, Azad Mohajir Riyasat are just a few of many organizations that have popped up in recent years.
It seems evident that now that Mohajir nation has finally realized that their electoral representation, and even physical existence, is NOT acceptable in Pakistan, they have started to turn to rather direct means to ensure theirs and their future generations’ survival.
The question remains what is it that Mohajirs want? Here are the few basic things that may help us understand the problems Mohajir Nation is facing:
- Free Will to choose their own representatives.
- Completely unbiased census to determine the true number of people living specially in the urban Sindh and subsequent allocation of resources based on that number.
- Removal of unjust rural and urban based Quota System in Sindh Province.
- Equal representation in government jobs, military and other national resources for Mohajirs.
- Justice for the families of thousands of Mohajirs who have been killed by the Pakistan Army and its agencies
- Bringing back the Stranded Pakistanis from Bangladesh.
- Put an end to the Pakistani Military Establishment’s policy of creating, harboring, financing and using religious extremists against Pakistanis and the rest of the world.
- No interference of Pakistani Army in any shape or form in the democratic process of the country.
- Complete removal of antiquated feudal system from the country.
- The list goes on and on but none of the demands stands in conflict with the “Two Nation” theory of 1947.
The #FreeKarachi Campaign, which was recently launched by American-Mohajirs also aims to bring to the world’s attention social, economic, educational and physical repression that Mohajir nation is facing in Pakistan and to raise voice for a Free Urban Sindh from the atrocities of Pakistan.
To minimize the impact of the #FreeKarachi Campaign, the Pakistan Army, its intelligence agencies and their paid touts are out biting their tails like mad dogs. Here is an example:
I would not say a word about this video, but would definitely urge every Mohajir across the globe to watch it and see how much hatred exists against Mohajirs in Pakistan.
From Pakistan’s boot-licking TV anchors to the so-called political pundits, or form the Jihadi religious clerics and political leaders to the Ambassador of Pakistan in the U.S., all are collectively fuming at the #FreeKrachi campaign. This alone shows the level of hatred against Karachi and Mohajirs.
The question to all “geniuses” is very simple: When the spokesperson for Free Karachi Campaign Mr. Nadeem Nusrat is out there to answer all question (including who is funding the campaign), then why would anybody in their right state of mind would believe these allegations?
Once again, it is the oldest trick from the bag of boots to label as “RAW agent” everyone who raises voice for their basic human rights in Pakistan.
Let us 70 million Mohajirs assure all critics that we will NOT stop and we WILL show the real face of the Men in Uniform to the world. We will show the world how Pakistan Army has created monsters like Haqaani Network, Hafiz Saeed, Mullah Sufi Muhammad, Mullah Aziz, how it is funding them, and how it is using them to fight the proxy wars that is the cause of the killing thousands of innocent human beings across the globe.
We have raised the voice for the Mohajir Nation and will knock every door from where we hope we can get justice, equality and the right to live free.
